Senator Menendez and His Wife Will Be Tried Separately in Bribery Case

April 12, 2024

Nadine Menendez had alerted the court to a health issue and requested a postponement. On Thursday, a judge said Robert Menendez’s case would proceed as scheduled. His wife’s trial will be delayed.

Senator Robert Menendez of New Jersey and his wife, Nadine Menendez, will be tried separately in a federal bribery case, a Manhattan judge ruled on Thursday.

The trial of Mr. Menendez, a Democrat, will go forward as scheduled on May 6, but Ms. Menendez’s case will be delayed until the summer.

The judge, Sidney H. Stein, issued his ruling after Ms. Menendez’s lawyers told him that she had a “serious medical condition” that would require surgery and a potentially extended period of treatment and recovery.
